Parents and applying students often begin their journey with an Open House, or a Shadow Day.

  1. This includes a general overview, the history of our school, and the philosophy behind our unique system in which teachers and parents collaborate in the mission of educating the child.
  2. In addition, participants tour the school, view the books used in our classical curriculum, and meet some of the staff members.
  3. Following the presentation and tour, there is time for questions and answers and general discussion.

The Admissions Process

1. School Tours / Shadow Days

Tours of the school can be scheduled on an as-needed basis between Open House dates by calling the Admissions Office.

Prospective students entering grades 2-12 will spend a morning at JPII for a Shadow Day. Visitors are paired with a host classmate who accompanies them throughout morning classes. It is a good opportunity to meet the other students and staff, participate in classroom activities, and get a general flavor of the JPII experience. Students entering PreK, Kindergarten, or 1st grade will spend a morning with us in May for a general readiness assessment.

2. Application

After completion of a Shadow Day, students will be invited to apply for admission.

3. Family Interview

Once a completed application has been processed, the parents will be contacted and an interview will be scheduled to discuss further the responsibilities of the school and parents in the cooperation of the education of the child

4. Testing

A general readiness assessment will be given to applicants entering PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade. Applicants entering Grades 2 – 12 will be given a placement test to determine students’ readiness for our academic program. Placement testing can be administered on the student’s Shadow Day if parents prefer this option.

There is a $25 per family fee for testing. This fee is applied to tuition if the student enrolls.

The general Readiness Assessment test for grades Pre-K through 1st is administered in the spring. Placement Tests for students in grades 2-5 are also given at this time if not previously completed. Parents will be notified well in advance of the date.


Notification of acceptance will be sent within 30 days of the completed testing.

A signed Enrollment Contract and applicable fees are due within one week of acceptance notification in order to reserve a spot on our academic roster for the coming school year.

6. P.A.C.E Training

Our day-long P.A.C.E. Training (Parents As Co-Educators) in August is designed to facilitate a smooth transition into the school community with curriculum training, discussions on classical education, and home-day studies. At least one parent, preferably the primary co-teacher, must attend. Ongoing P.A.C.E. training, in the form of question and answer panels with teachers are scheduled quarterly. Although optional, parents find this ongoing training quite helpful.

7. Grade Placement

Applicants for PreK and Kindergarten must have their 4th and 5th birthdays, respectively, before August 1 of the year for which they are applying. Because of the rigorous nature of the school, especially in later grades, parents of students whose birthdays fall between March 1 and June 1 are strongly encouraged to err on the side of having their children be older rather than younger for their grade level in order to allow for more developmental maturity.

JPII desires for all students to reach their highest potential at our school. Therefore, we will recommend students for the grade level at which we feel they will succeed.
